Displaying Mannequins In Window or Store?

June 30, 2016 2 min read

One of the decisions you'll have to make when displaying mannequins is whether to place them inside your store or in a window. Granted, both locations will prove beneficial in attracting more visitors, and subsequently generating more sales, but there are differences between the two that shouldn't go unnoticed.

Start With The Windows

Leaving your store windows void of any promotional material is a huge mistake that will come back to haunt you. Window space is an invaluable commodity and should be treated as such. Regardless of what your store sells -- apparel, accessories, sporting goods, pet supplies, etc. -- you should use the window to promote it.

Does this mean you should display mannequin in your store's window? There's really no easy answer to this question, as each and every store is different. However, if you sell apparel or fashion accessories, the answer is usually yes. Displaying mannequins in your store window will allow you to present the product in a more relatable manner, which usually translates into more sales. Just ask yourself, would you be more likely to purchase a new t-shirt after seeing it displayed on a mannequin or a hanging rack? If you choose the first answer, you fall under the majority of shoppers.

What About In-Store Mannequins

Of course, there are several benefits to displaying mannequins inside your store as well. You only have so much space available in your store, so take advantage of it by displaying your product on mannequins. Doing so will encourage shoppers to stop and check out the product, some of which may choose to purchase it.

There are a few things you have to consider when setting up mannequins inside your store, though, one of which is the traffic flow. Ideally, they should be set up in an area where shoppers will see them but still out of the flow of traffic (you obviously don't want to place mannequins in the center of an aisle).

Window vs In-Store Mannequins

Can't seem to choose between setting up your mannequins in a window display or inside your store? Rather than trying to choose between these two locations, I recommend using them both. There's no such thing as having "too many mannequins," so feel free to use them generously throughout your store.
